Hi From My Castle
Literally. I live in a castle. Literally a palace. But did I mention that I actually *live* in a ...
“So, Paul Paulo, how is Brazil?”
“Well…I don’t want to brag or anything, but I live in a castle. So pretty good.”
Yes, this is my house.
In the interests of full journalistic accuracy I should probably mention that my house for the past few days has been in one of 450 units contained within this castle rather than the entire castle itself.
The castle in question is the Quintadinha in Petropolis, Rio de Janeiro state.
Petropolis is about 60 kilometers north of the city of Rio de Janeiro and has a population of somewhere around 444,000.
It’s the former imperial capital of Brazil back when the country was a proper country (a monarchy).
But more importantly:
Why am I here?
Well…
Why are any of us here?
But less existentially, I’m here because I wanted a change from the last part of Brazil where I was and this city is very historical and sublime. I like it.
Also, I need a home base for the next three months to obtain my Brazil driver license. My Canadian license has expired and I will need to start over again at the beginning here in order to get a license.
That means three months of driving school.
I should ask them if I could just have chauffeurs everywhere I go instead, since I do live in a palace.
Palace Intrigue
I’m currently down here in the bistro area doing some writing.
I had a salad for breakfast because I’m on a diet.
I’m also going to a new gym where I try to go to classes every day and work out every second day. You can see my gym below.
What’s Next?
I really don’t know. I am considering my options. First I’m working on getting this license and continuing to work.
I’m also going to be writing another book in the next few months (topic to be announced). It will likely be in the self-help & satire category.
Meanwhile here is a list of a few of my recent articles from May and several others:
