After Austin I went down to New Braunfels about an hour south. It’s an incredible place full of some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet.
I took a tube down part of the river where you also get to go through some rapids and it was a lot of fun. Shoutout to Jeremy at 444 Tubing for setting me up with a tube at half-price and arranging everything for me despite me arriving close to their closing time. And thanks to Randy for driving me for free out to the drop off point.
The river was really nice, and it’s super relaxing.
I also got to go to Gruene Hall a few times which was one of the best experiences of my life. I saw various performers including in blues, country, rock and folk. They still keep much of the structure like it was back in the 1870s and even though Gruene (next to New Braunfels) is touristy, it’s not ruined or tacky because of it.
While in New Braunfels I stayed at the Gruene River Outpost Lodge, now called Hacienda del Rio. It was so nice and I recommend it to everyone. It’s right on the Guadalupe River with a kind of summer camp feel. The staff are so nice especially Melissa and Jane.
I was in New Braunfels about a week and then went up to Hot Springs, Arkansas for about a week (see upcoming post). From Hot Springs I came back to Austin and then New Braunfels for a few days before heading to Nashville (writing this from the bus).
I’m continuing to freelance and work on my book, but am out of work, so any paid subscriptions to TOPPP are much appreciated!
